Apply for a Subsidy for Your Scalp Cooling Treatment

HairToStay is a nonprofit organization that offers need-based grants to offset the expense of scalp cooling systems for chemotherapy patients being treated in the United States.

There are two basic approaches to scalp cooling:  Manual Scalp Cooling Systems and Automated Scalp Cooling Systems.  Click here for more information about your options for scalp cooling.

Scalp cooling minimizes chemotherapy induced hair loss by continuous application of precisely cooled caps (either individual caps or a scalp cooling machine) to the scalp in stages before, during and after chemotherapy infusions.  The length of time for each stage is determined by each patient’s particular drug protocol, hair length and thickness, age, and other factors. Scalp cooling systems are rented, not sold. Most insurance companies do not cover the costs of scalp cooling currently, but might if you ask for a cranial prosthesis.

First, read the Eligibility Requirements below.  If you qualify for a subsidy, download and fill out the Scalp Cooling Subsidy Program Application (en Espanol) and submit it along with the documentation requested in the application. You can submit it by email, by fax to 888-246-6527 or by US mail to HairToStay Subsidy Program, P.O. Box 219, Gloucester, MA 01930. There is no deadline. Applications are accepted throughout the year. Please use the same name on your application as you use for ordering your scalp cooling treatment.
